With the international break now upon us, Chelsea fans will return simply praying that all of their players return in a week or so’s time fit and firing.

The quality the Blues possess in their squad often sees them have more players representing their country than anyone else, leaving Enzo Maresca prone to losing someone through injury.

Barring the season-long issue for club captain Reece James, Chelsea have been relatively lucky so far when it comes to avoiding issues that have ruled out key players.

Summer signing Omari Kellyman has recently suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring issue, pushing back his return date.

One of the players they would have had the biggest fear over was Wesley Fofana, after he didn’t feature at all last season due to a serious knee injury.

However, the defender has been able to start in every Premier League game so far this season, proving to be a key member of the side under the new manager.

This good form has seen him rewarded with a call up to the France national team, although the Blues remain cautious that his fitness is monitored.

According to Fabrice Hawkins, Chelsea have requested some tests be done to ensure he is able to represent his country over the next 10 days.

He said: “At Chelsea’s request, Wesley Fofana will undergo tests at Clairefontaine this Monday evening, for a blow received to the right shin three weeks ago. Barring any unpleasant surprises, he should however be able to stay with the Blues.”

Fofana suspended for next Chelsea game

Fofana has formed a very strong partnership already at the back with Levi Colwill, who himself is off to represent England this week.

The Frenchman will not be available for Chelsea’s next game anyway against Liverpool, after picking up five yellow cards already this season.

Robert Sanchez has hinted his teammates need to cut out unnecessary bookings from talking back to referees, with Marc Cucurella also already suspended.
