A host of Chelsea’s first team players have taken to social media to pay their respects to footballing legend Pele.
The Brazilian icon passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
In his legendary career, the forward scored an unfathomable amount of goals at club level, however his best achievements are known in the international game.
Between 1958 and 1970, Pele won three of the available four World Cup’s, only missing the tournament that took place in and was won by England.
The Brazilian had been ill in hospital for some time, with reports from the time stating he had not been getting any better.
Although it perhaps wasn’t the most shocking of news when it broke, how good he was and his impact on football meant it still rocked the sport.
Chelsea players honour Pele
Players from across the sport were quick to honour Pele with posts on social media.
Thiago Silva, who obviously plays international football for the same nation, issued a particularly heartfelt response.
He said: “Forever the King of football, the Legend! Rest in peace, Pelé.
“You have changed the History of football. Your legacy will always be in our hearts. Thanks for everything!”
He was joined in honouring the great man by the likes of club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, Raheem Sterling and upcoming new signing David Datro Fofana.
Pele’s links to Chelsea may not run deep, but he did previously give his personal seal of approval to one youngster at the club.
Omari Hutchinson reportedly impressed the former forward a lot in a tournament set up in honour of him, obviously tipping him to go on to achieve big things.
The former Arsenal man is currently awaiting his first start for the club after making a handful of appearances on the bench in multiple competitions.
