If Chelsea are going to complete a number of the signings they are looking to do this summer, they are going to need to part ways with a plethora of current first team stars.

A lot was made in the opening weeks of the season of the bloated squad that was at Stamford Bridge. It got to the point that Enzo Maresca was able to name a completely different XI for Conference League games in the group stages.

This did not last though, and Chelsea are going to face the tough task of finding a permanent suitor for a number of players who have not raised their stocks from this campaign.

Some of those left the club on loan in January. While Joao Felix got off to an electric start at AC Milan, he is enduring a nightmare spell away from Stamford Bridge right now.

Another player who departed on a temporary basis was Renato Veiga, with it becoming clear he had not recieved what he expected after a move to West London.

Chelsea prepared to cash in on Renato Veiga

It came out that Veiga was looking to be a central defender, an opportunity he is currently persuing at Juventus.

It has been reported exclusively by The Chelsea Chronicle that Chelsea expect Veiga back this summer, where they will assess their options.

According to SixSports, the Blues are now ready to cash in on Veiga, hoping for a fee of around £16m.

Given the fact they spent £12m on his addition, this would see them make profit on the Portugal international despite the fact he only actually spent six months at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca a huge fan of Renato Veiga

Maresca had been keen to use Veiga wherever possible during his time in the Chelsea first team squad, however he was always going to struggle to break in as a regular ahead of Marc Cucurella.

Reports stated that Maresca was ‘crazy’ about Veiga, and only softened his stance on letting him leave on loan due to the fact that there was no buy clause included.

It is perfectly believable that the boss would like to intergrate him into the squad again next season, perhaps as a more regular central option.

However, it looks as if the club are making the decision above his head on the defender, perhaps acknowledging the financial situation they could find themselves in should they miss out on Champions League football.
