Reports have claimed that Chelsea are a big fan of one striker who isn’t actually rated that highly by his own club.

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is not the biggest fan of Jhon Duran, who has been linked with an exit from Villa Park.

Duran has been reportedly of interest of Chelsea this month as a potential addition to their attack.

This is despite him not having a great deal of experience at the top level under his belt. He has just two goals to his name so far.

He is perhaps more known for his disciplinary issues at this stage, with him averaging a yellow card for his current club at an alarming rate.

This could be behind Emery’s reported feeling towards Duran, which journalist David Ornstein has claimed is the polar opposite to what Chelsea think of him.

Emery not a fan of Duran

He said: “One way is via the sale of Jhon Duran. The Colombia striker joined Villa last January but has struggled for game time and goals. Unai Emery is not the biggest fan, but Chelsea do like him.

“Duran, 20, is viewed by the west London team as possessing vast potential and they have held dialogue about doing a deal — provided the price reduces to a level they deem fair.

“The prospect may be complicated by Duran being injured, but that does not rule out a switch as he would be seen mainly as a talent for the future.”

The addition of Duran would likely leave some Chelsea fans with some confusion at what the plan is when it comes to the striker situation at Stamford Bridge.

It feels at this point like the addition of Duran at the expense of Armando Broja would be a bit of a sideways move for the Blues.
