Chelsea seem to leave defender out of Premier League squad for rest of the season, Enzo Fernandez won’t be happy

Enzo Maresca will now have a clear idea of the squad he has available to him at Chelsea for the rest of the season after the madness of the January transfer window has come to an end.

Only Trevoh Chalobah and Mathis Amougou joined the club as genuine first-team options, although the latter is only likely to provide cover for the starting midfielders this season.

In what was a bloated squad when everyone was fit, a number of individuals have moved on loan for the rest of the season at least.

Axel Disasi, Joao Felix and Renato Veiga all have new homes despite the fact that they played key roles in the Conference League group stages.

Aaron Anselmino not listed in Chelsea’s Premier Legaue squad

Another individual who found himself at Stamford Bridge was Aaron Anselmino. The plan was originally for the youngster to join Chelsea at the end of the season.

However, he returned, and would have moved on loan to Marseille on deadline day if the Blues had a loan spot left to fill.

While he has been training with the first team under Maresca, it seems as if there are no plans for him to take to the pitch in the league this season.

As per the official squad on the Premier League’s website, Anselmino is not on the list, while winter additions Amougou and Chalobah are present.

The list also features a number of youngsters yet to make their Premier League debuts, including Sam Rak-Sakyi and returning loanee David Datro Fofana.

Enzo Fernandez a big fan of Aaron Anselmino

While this is no doubt not the end of the defender’s time at Stamford Bridge, many will have hoped to see the talent the Blues have on their hands as soon as possible.

One figure who is clearly a big fan of his is countryman Enzo Fernandez. The midfielder stated to Ole that he was confident Anselmino would make it as soon as he arrived at Chelsea.

He said to Ole: “I congratulate you on this step. Now break it in the six months that you go to Boca and I’ll wait for you, you’re going to break it here. Count on me for whatever you need.”

Chelsea will be hoping they have enough defensive options available for the rest of the season. Both Disasi and Veiga departed during the January window, while Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana remain injured.
