In the final few days of the January window, Chelsea’s player has now been linked as a transfer target for Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille side.

The mid-season window shuts on Monday night, so fans are anxious to see what the Chelsea squad looks like for the second half of the season.

Fresh rumours suggest that French club Marseille have made a late move to sign a Blues player on loan from Stamford Bridge.

Robert De Zerbi took charge as the Marseille boss in the summer, and his side currently sits second in the Ligue 1 table behind runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Incidentally, Scott Minto wanted Chelsea to appoint De Zerbi over Enzo Maresca, but the former Brighton coach took his place in the Marseille dugout last summer.

Marseille submit loan offer for £15m Chelsea player

According to L’Equipe, Marseille have made an offer to sign Chelsea’s Aaron Anselmino on a short-term loan for the rest of the 2024/25 season.

Apparently, De Zerbi’s side are keen to sign two new players before the transfer window closes. They’ve submitted their offer to take the Blues youngster on a temporary basis.

Chelsea signed Anselmino in a £15m deal (BBC) from Boca Juniors last summer before allowing him to return to them on loan. However, the Blues recalled the 19-year-old defender in January to allow him to join up with the squad and move to England.

Maresca recently described Chelsea centre-half Anselmino as a “top talent”, but stressed he’ll need time to adapt to life in a new country.

Remarkably, the Argentine teenager is now linked with a possible exit in the next few days. We’ll now wait to see what happens with Marseille’s loan offer.

What should Chelsea do with Aaron Anselmino?

Anselino has been pictured training with Chelsea’s first-team group, but he’s yet to feature in a matchday squad with the Blues since he was recalled from his loan.

If the South American youngster likes the idea of a late move in the next few days, we think it could be a real positive for him to experience his first taste of European football. The ideas under De Zerbi at Marseille could be great for his education and development, too.

However, we appreciate that the young centre-half has only just made the move to England. It’s not the end of the world if he stays with Chelsea this season to help him adapt both on and off the pitch.
