The worst-kept transfer secret is now over because Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Jamie Gittens.
Chelsea confirmed on Saturday that Jamie Gittens has joined them from Borussia Dortmund, penning a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Without a doubt, the 20-year-old winger fits the Blues’ transfer policy of being a highly-rated youngster with huge potential.
The Englishman has returned home after spending his entire senior club career so far in German football. However, he did spend time in the academies at Manchester City, Reading and Chelsea before joining Dortmund in 2020.
Chelsea’s transfer chiefs were desperate to sign Gittens, and they’ve now finally got their target through the club’s doors.
Gittens was pictured in attendance during Chelsea’s weekend victory against Palmeiras in the Club World Cup quarter-finals.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca even confirmed the transfer before the club’s official announcement. He said via Football.London: “Jamie was here tonight, he was on the pitch. And he will be with us probably one more day, two days more. And then he will go for a holiday and come back when we’re going to start the new season.”

Jamie Gittens received texts from Cole Palmer, Liam Delap
During his first interview as a Chelsea player, Gittens shared that Blues stars Cole Palmer and Liam Delap have been text messaging, urging him to join them at Stamford Bridge. He played with the duo in the Man City academy, and now they will all be reunited in West London.
Gittens said via Chelsea’s official website: “I played with Cole at Under-16s and Under-18s, and Liam the same. And I’ve played against Levi (Colwill) from every single time we’d play against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup, Premier League tournaments, the lot.
“I had a couple of text messages from Cole telling me to come, the same from Liam, and all of them were eager for me to join.”
The contingent of former Man City youngsters continues to grow at Chelsea now that Gittens has joined them to link up with Palmer and Delap. Romeo Lavia and Tosin Adarabioyo are two more Blues first-team stars that used to play in Manchester, too.
Reports claimed that Gittens only wanted to join Chelsea this summer, which is the sort of thing that will make him popular with supporters from day one. We suspect all the familiar faces will make the transition pretty smooth, too.
Even though he’s only aged 20, the left-winger does arrive with a decent amount of senior experience under his belt.

Chelsea’s three-man shortlist for the left-winger position this summer included Gittens, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho. Let’s wait and see if the Blues have got the right man.

Jamie Gittens admired two former Chelsea stars
During the lengthy first interview with Chelsea’s website, Gittens also shared that as a youngster he used to enjoy watching former Blues wingers Eden Hazard and Willian.
Gittens said: “I did watch Chelsea when I was younger. Not in the stadium but on the TV at home in Reading, during the time of the Eden Hazard era. Eden was the clear player for me at that time. I liked Willian as well, another attacker. He had that little shimmy he did, I liked that.”
All of a sudden, Chelsea’s wide options could look quite different next season with Gittens, Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian added to the mix.
We’ve seen during Maresca’s first year as manager that he relies heavily on his wingers.
