Chelsea are focusing a lot of their attention after returning from the Club World Cup on players who they hope will leave the club this summer, with one of those named causing some surprise amongst staff at the club.

The Blues have already completed a lot of their business in terms of incomings. Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro have been the star additions up to now.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed Chelsea are discussing two more signings, however they will likely rely on players leaving the club first.

It became clear which players were not in the plans of Enzo Maresca based on who was selected for the trip to the United States for the Club World Cup.

One of those who was left at home was Renato Veiga, after his second half of the campaign was spent on loan at Juventus.

The Portugal international was looking for minutes in the centre-back position, which was the main reason behind his desire to leave Stamford Bridge back in January.

Despite being back with the Blues at this moment in time, transfer insider Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that he is going to be on the move this summer.

He explained that there are some at Chelsea who are surprised he isn’t being given his chance though to feature in his preferred position.

He said: “The Veiga situation – I think there is a bit of interest there. I do know Chelsea are a bit surprised that Juventus haven’t come back for him actually but there is that interest from Bayern Munich, and there is some interest in England as well.

“Veiga’s going to go which has surprised a few at the club. I think they did think that he would get his chance centrally.”

Chelsea line up Veiga replacement

After Veiga was described as ‘excellent’ following his breakthrough into the Portugal national team, there will have been many left excited to see if he could make his mark again at Stamford Bridge.

However, Veiga is expected to leave as the Blues line up a move for a player who will be seen as a direct replacement for the young defender.

Chelsea are the favourites to sign Jorrel Hato, and one of the big reasons they would like to bring him in is to gain some much-needed cover for Marc Cucurella.

If Veiga doesn’t want to play left-back, there are no recognised options other than the Spaniard for the position in the first team squad.
