Reports have claimed that staff at Chelsea were not even allowed to say the name of one of their summer signings before he joined the club.

According to The Telegraph, those at the club were told not to speak of Cole Palmer before his move to Stamford Bridge was made official on deadline day.

Chelsea’s final addition of the summer has so far proven to be their most effective.

Since breaking into the starting side, no one has been able to displace Palmer, who currently sits as one of the most important players for the club.

He already has three goals to his name, finding the net in important games against Arsenal and Tottenham already.

He will need to be at his best though on Sunday if the Blues are going to get anything from the game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

It seems as if there may have been some in West London who were delighted to see him come in to the club because they were aware of just how much he would change their fortunes so quickly.

For this reason, staff at the club were simply not allowed to mention him by name, perhaps to not jinx the situation.

Palmer was the final addition of what had been a busy transfer window for the Blues that had multiple ups and downs.

Things had gone from zero to 100 regarding the Moises Caicedo saga. It genuinely looked as if they were going to miss out on the signing to Liverpool.

They swiftly followed that eventual deal up with the signing of Romeo Lavia, who Mauricio Pochettino confirmed today is approaching a return to work with the team.
