Chelsea still believe their £100k-a-week player is a ‘top-level talent’ despite poor start to season

Chelsea still have faith that their first-team player is a ‘top-level talent’, but there’s speculation that he may be allowed to leave on a temporary basis to go and rediscover some form elsewhere.

The competition for places in the current Chelsea squad is as tough it’s been for years at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca, who’s made a positive start as the Blues manager, is fortunate enough to have a couple of quality options per position on the pitch. As a result, some high-profile names aren’t getting as many minutes in the opening months of the season that they may have expected.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed via The Debrief last week that Chelsea’s players remain “very happy” with Maresca and his approach.

Chelsea still have faith in Mykhailo Mudryk

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea still believe that Mykhailo Mudryk is a ‘top-level talent’ despite his form for them.

The 23-year-old winger has regularly struggled for any consistent form since his move to Stamford Bridge in January 2023. So far this season, the £89m winger (BBC) has failed to score in any of his eight Blues appearances.

The GMS report adds that Mudryk could end up leaving Chelsea on loan when the January transfer window comes around. Apparently, there’s now an increasing chance that the Ukraine international joins a new club to help him.

The Mykhailo Mudryk puzzle

Mudryk, who earns £100,000-a-week (Spotrac), has left supporters pulling their hair out during his time in Chelsea colours.

The energetic attacker is one of the quickest players in the Premier League and has plenty of endeavour, but the difficulty comes in his end product. In 66 Chelsea games, Mudryk has only scored seven goals and created seven assists.

It would be a huge decision to allow the left-winger to leave on loan for the second half of the season, but it’s definitely a conversation that should happen between the player and head coach.

If Mudryk leaves, Chelsea do already have Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto as options for the left wing. Blues youngster Tyrique George is a developing talent to watch out for, too.
