Chelsea will no doubt be looking for the right opportunity to strengthen their first team side in the final hours of the January transfer window.

With a number of players set to move on today, there is certainly a spot or two in the squad for the decision makers to fill as they look to push on in all competitions in the second half of the season.

Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka are set for loan moves away, and a replacement for the latter is reportedly something that has already been considered by the Blues as the transfer window reaches its final moments.

Chelsea looking at new midfielder after Nico O’Reilly knock back

A midfielder has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout January, with Manchester City star Nico O’Reilly being linked with the Blues late on.

The Blues are no doubt keen to recreate the success of the Cole Palmer addition, however reports have stated that their efforts to sign O’Reilly have been pushed back.

TheSecretScout has stated that it would take a big bid for City to part ways with their young star, and for this reason the Blues are now looking elsewhere.

They have claimed that Chelsea are considering a new midfielder in the final hours of the transfer window.

They said: “I understand now that Man City have knocked back Chelsea’s enquiry for Nico O’Reilly, it would take a huge offer to even entertain.

“Chelsea have turned their attention elsewhere to bring in a midfielder before window closes tonight.”

Chelsea’s potential deadline day midfield targets

Of the names that have been mentioned recently, one they have been strongly linked with is Mathis Amougou.

The youngster has enjoyed an impressive season so far with Saint-Etienne, with the Blues willing to pay up to £13m for his services.

Chelsea were linked with Kobbie Mainoo earlier in the January transfer window, however he looks set to stay put at Old Trafford for the rest of this season at least.
