Chelsea believe that they have a really “special” player on their hands after his performances in training and matches this season.

Chelsea have a talented squad, which boasts the likes of Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho.

Sancho made a real impact in the Blues’ last outing, providing an assist to Christopher Nkunku away at Bournemouth, while Palmer and Madueke were incredible in the 6-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Madueke scored a hat-trick, while Palmer got a hat-trick of assists. Enzo Maresca had a warning for Palmer, though, after he received some tough treatment at the Vitality Stadium last weekend.

Chelsea think Noni Madueke is ‘special’

Madueke was a target for Newcastle United during the summer. However, the winger ended up staying at Chelsea and after seeing him in training and playing under Maresca, people at the club think he is “special”, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Discussing the 22-year-old on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert said: “It was end of June, so to be honest in the confused moment of the financial fair play, you remember those days especially with Newcastle very busy trying some swap deals around England to make the financial fair play rules work for them.

“So Madueke was one of the main targets for Newcastle, then what happened? After all of that, Chelsea, internally, saw how special Noni Madueke was in training and then in the official games under Enzo Maresca.”

It has been claimed that Madueke actually thought he was joining Newcastle at one point.

Noni Madueke is special

There are not too many wingers who can beat a full-back like Madueke can. In fact, as per FBref, Madueke has actually ranked in the 90th percentile for successful take-ons among attacking midfielders and wingers over the last year.

The England international completes 3.04 take-ons per 90 minutes. Ultimately, his dribbling probably does make him quite a special footballer.

Madueke just needs to work on his end product, but there has been improvement there. You just have to look at how he took his three goals against Wolves, which were all quite similar.

Madueke was disappointed to be taken off at Bournemouth, but that is understandable. He is in the form of his life at the moment and wants to play.

And right now he should. Madueke, who cost Chelsea around £29m, is a real threat down that right-hand side.
