Chelsea have now been told they can sign Manchester United target Rasmus Hojlund for £40m this summer.
What’s the story?
Well, it is said that Atalanta are now willing to accept £40m for their No.17 this summer.
It was previously reported in the Daily Mail that the Serie A side would demand £60m for Hojlund amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
However, The Times are now claiming that £40m could be enough to do it, with Erik ten Hag targeting both the Danish wonderkid and Harry Kane.
That may be an issue for Mauricio Pochettino over the summer if Manchester United win their remaining fixtures and qualify for the Champions League, as Chelsea have no European football to offer their targets.
However, Hojlund hasn’t played in the Champions League this season, so he wouldn’t exactly be making a sacrifice in going without it for another campaign.
Chelsea could land a star of the future in Hojlund
If Chelsea believe they have a genuine opportunity to sign Hojlund, they must take it.
The 20-year-old has put his name up in lights this season following a move to Atalanta from Sturm Graz in August 2022.
Hojlund scored a hat-trick on his full debut for Denmark back in March against Finland in a UEFA EURO 2024 qualifier, while he has 14 goals in 39 appearances at club level, with six assists too.
The Copenhagen-born forward appears to be a potential star of the future, with Sturm Graz boss Christian Ilzer, who previously coached the precocious talent, even likening him to Erling Haaland.
As quoted by talkSPORT, the 45-year-old said: “There can be a comparison between Rasmus and Erling Haaland. In some characteristics, they are similar.
“Both are very fast, they also share determination and the desire to always score. Both Hojlund and Haaland are two very positive youngsters and have great confidence in their abilities.”
If Chelsea manage to sign Hojlund this summer, supporters should be very, very excited.
