Jamie Gittens is a statement signing by Chelsea this summer who is perhaps going under the radar.
The Blues signed Jamie Gittens, 20, from Borussia Dortmund earlier in July.
Chelsea officials were ‘desperate’ to sign Gittens before finally wrapping up his transfer.
However, the English winger can’t make his Blues debut at the Club World Cup because he played for Dortmund earlier in the competition in the group stages.
In contrast, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro are two summer signings at Chelsea who have already introduced themselves to the club’s supporters with some impressive performances. Gittens will have to wait a little longer before he can make his Blues debut at the start of the 2025/26 season.

Two reasons Chelsea were drawn to Jamie Gittens
According to The Athletic, Chelsea believe that Gittens is one of the very best under-21 wingers in Europe right now.
It is understood that the Blues have been attracted to the youngster’s character. In addition, they appreciate how much first-team experience he already has at such a young age.
The report adds that Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is convinced that the 20-year-old wide man can be successful within his system.
Gittens, who usually plays on the left wing, will add even more depth in attacking positions at Stamford Bridge. It’s also fascinating that the young talent actually joins with plenty of know-how in senior football.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Yellow cards | Red cards |
| Borussia Dortmund | 107 | 17 | 14 | 7 | 0 |
Despite claims that Bayern Munich held talks about signing Gittens this summer, the rapid attacker sealed a return to Chelsea to move back to England.
Even though he played in the academies at Manchester City, Reading and Chelsea as a youngster, he will now get his first opportunity at Premier League football. Perhaps it will help that he will be linking up with some familiar faces that he’s played alongside in England’s youth teams, too.

Chelsea have signed a dribbling machine
The Blues squad already includes top-class dribblers such as Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer, so it should excite fans that they have added another fleet-footed attacker to their ranks.
Gittens has made a name for himself at Dortmund as being an eye-catching wide man who torments full-backs.
As you can see above, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal was the only player aged under 21 to complete more dribbles per 90 than Chelsea’s new signing.
Gittens only wanted to join Chelsea, and that should quickly put him in the good books of supporters. Once he starts entertaining on the football pitch with his attacking magic, we suspect he could become a serious fan favourite.
