The youngsters coming through the Chelsea academy have been a constant shining light whenever things will be tough when the first team squad have been underwhelming.

It feels this season more than ever under Enzo Maresca that those players have been given the opportunity to make their mark for the first team, largely thanks to the presence of the Conference League as a competition to play for.

The likes of Shumaira Mheuka, Samuel Rak-Sakyi and Kiano Dyer have all been handed their senior debuts in Europe this season, Mheuka breaking the record for being the youngest Blue to feature in Europe.

Their impact has not been limited to playing in Chelsea blue either. A recent England U19s outing saw as many as four young Blues make an appearance, with Tyrique George the star of the show.

England U16s were in action on Tuesday, taking on Japan in a friendly match that had more than a hint of Cobham feel to it.

Chelsea youngsters dominate for England U16s

The Young Lions won 3-2, with all three goals being scored by players who are part of the club’s illustrious academy.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen found the net twice, and his teammate for club and country, Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli was also on target.

Nicoll-Jazuli has been playing above his age for the national team, making his personal achievement even greater.

Chelsea youngsters in line to feature for first team

Blues manager Maresca will have the luxury of being able to rest a number of his top players for the upcoming Conference League quarter-final second leg tie against Legia Warsaw.

Chelsea already lead 3-0 on aggregate, and the likes of George and Josh Acheampong are almost certain to start.

The boss could look even younger though. 16-year-old Reggie Walsh has been left out of U18s duty in order to train with the first team ahead of European action.

While it may be too soon for Nicoll-Jazuli and Kavuma-McQueen, the pair are both painting themselves in a great light ahead of what will hopefully be a bright future in West London.
