There’s a lot of positivity right now at Chelsea regarding Benoit Badiashile.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Phillips has reported via his Substack on Tuesday that Chelsea’s staff have been “really pleased” with Benoit Badiashile in training during the past week and his recovery from injury.

He adds that the 22-year-old defender is desperate to get back on the pitch after missing the start of the season with a hamstring problem.

Apparently, the French centre-back is ready to come back into the squad for this Sunday’s Premier League fixture away to Bournemouth.

We’re delighted to hear Badiashile is nearly back and in contention to play for the first time this campaign.

The left-footed centre-half joined Chelsea midway through last season and was one of the very rare positives in the season.

He’s a towering defender with great strength and speed. This is matched his excellent reading of the game, composure and ball-playing qualities.

The Athletic claimed this week that Chelsea believe Badiashile and Levi Colwill are two of the very best left-sided centre-backs in the world right now.

The duo both have a great passing range and an exquisite left foot, but that shouldn’t shoehorn them solely into the left-sided centre-back role. For certain, we would love to see the pair start together in the heart of defence soon.
