Chelsea’s American ownership will have felt as if it was a crowning moment for them to be crowned Club World Cup champions in their home country following the dominant win over PSG.

Enzo Maresca’s side were incredible throughout the tournament, with the manager utilising his impressive squad depth in the face of testing conditions in the United States.

New signing Joao Pedro made a real impact after he joined up with the side at the quarter-final stage. The former Brighton man scored three goals in two starts, including a goal in the final.

The feel-good factor installed by those on the pitch may have led some to forget that Chelsea were sanctioned by UEFA for breaking financial rules, seeing them handed a fine.

Chelsea confident their transfer masterplan will keep them onside after UEFA fine

They were also instructed that they must keep to the terms agreed with UEFA for the next four years in order to avoid that fine increasing drastically.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire exclusively spoke to The Chelsea Chronicle to discuss what this means for the Blues, and he said that Chelsea are confident that the vast player trading completed by Todd Boehly and co will keep them on the right line as far as UEFA’s ruling is concerned.

He said: “People are saying this isn’t a significant penalty, but they are just concentrating on the fine itself. But it’s not as black-and-white as that. You need to look at the other constraints included in the settlement.

I think Chelsea are very confident that their continued ability to utilise the player sale model will allow them to continue to be as competitive as they have in recent years. You could even argue that they have been stockpiling talent with exactly this eventuality in mind.

Mass exodus looming at Chelsea

Despite two trophies won in the 2024/25 season, it is fair to say there are areas where Chelsea cannot currently compete with their elite Premier League rivals.

A move away from Stamford Bridge is being discussed, however until then the Blues will be significantly lower than many others in terms of matchday revenue.

For this reason, Maguire believes they will stay in the FFP guidelines by selling players, with the time coming for a mass exodus in West London.

Because they know that they cannot compete in terms of matchday revenue and they have effectively had two seasons without a front-of-shirt sponsor, the aim has been to hoard talent that they can one day sell off to get them within the FFP limit. We’re at that exact moment now.

The likes of Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic have already agreed deals to move elsewhere, and the rest of the transfer window is going to see the club prioritise outgoings.

Axel Disasi, Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku and Ben Chilwell are just a handful of names the club will be looking to part ways with before the window shuts in September.
