Chris Sutton has shared whether or not he’d pick Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in the England starting line-up for their upcoming match.
Cole Palmer was one of three Chelsea stars selected in Lee Carsley’s England squad for this October international break, along with Noni Madueke and Levi Colwill.
The Three Lions host Greece on Thursday night in the Nations League. Afterwards, they travel to Finland for another game on Sunday.
Palmer has just been crowned England Men’s Player of the Year, but he’s struggled for starts so far in his international career. In fact, he’s only started two of his nine senior caps.
The Chelsea attacker definitely goes into these Nations League matches in sensational form, scoring six goals and creating five assists in seven Premier League appearances this season.

Chris Sutton would start Cole Palmer for England
Chris Sutton has been asked to pick his England starting XI to take on Greece tomorrow evening. Interestingly, he’s opted to go with Chelsea’s Palmer in his favoured No.10 role.
Sutton told The Daily Mail: “I’d give John Stones the nod against Greece, even if he hasn’t been starting for Manchester City, alongside the impressive Marc Guehi. Rico Lewis at left back, because who else is there other than shoehorning in Levi Colwill?
“You need to have Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer in this team, so I’ve placed one next to Declan Rice and the other at No 10 where he can do what he’s been doing so impressively for Chelsea ever since he moved to Stamford Bridge.”

Cole Palmer deserves his crack
We’ve got no doubt that Palmer has done more than enough to get a proper opportunity to make an England starting position his own.
Despite some memorable moments at the Euro 2024 tournament, including scoring in the final against Spain, Palmer didn’t start a single game in the summer competition. It seems remarkable that a player with his ability was so regularly overlooked.
As seen above, Jude Bellingham has the capacity to drop a bit deeper into a central midfield position. The only glaring omission from Sutton’s starting line-up is Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
