Christian Eriksen has given an insight into what Chelsea’s players can expect if Mauricio Pochettino is appointed as the next manager at Stamford Bridge.
The speculation in the media all points towards Mauricio Pochettino taking charge as the next Blues head coach.
According to The Telegraph’s report yesterday, Pochettino could be very close to agreeing the deal to become Chelsea’s boss next season.
The 51-year-old manager has coached successfully in England before with Tottenham and Southampton, but his most recent job was under the huge scrutiny of French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
If the Argentine returns to London, he’ll be taking on a Chelsea role that has to improve so many things on the football pitch. Last night’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford was a reminder of the hole this current squad finds itself in.
Manchester United midfielder Eriksen, 31, spent several years being coached by Pochettino during their time at Spurs together.
He’s shared what Pochettino’s training sessions were like. Chelsea stars should be interested to hear the manager’s workload included a lot of running without the ball.
“I had Poch for a lot longer than the other managers and I think what we did and what we created with him, the team we had was incredible. So, learning wise, I did learn from Poch. You’d have the ball less in training than before but have the ball a lot more in the games. With him, there was a lot of tough training, a lot of running, which is important for the physical part. We were a young side so, for us, it was the perfect mix and, just in the game, to play free,” Eriksen said, as quoted by Manchester United’s official website.
From the outside looking in, Pochettino certainly seemed very loved at Spurs for the majority of his five years in the capital.
Chelsea fans need to bury his Spurs connections deep in their minds if he takes the reigns at Stamford Bridge and support him to the fullest.
You can only be impressed by his track record at Spurs for developing youngsters. For instance, Harry Kane and Dele Alli really burst into life under Pochettino’s guidance.
