For all the Chelsea representation at the 2026 World Cup, there has been a lack of quality from those playing for their nations this summer.

Reece James has had his critics for his England performances, while Moises Caicedo has been the victim of scapegoating as Ecuador are staring an early elimination from the competition in the face.

Of the Blues in action, only Pedro Neto and Nicolas Jackson have even contributed to a goal for their countries, both picking up assists for Portugal and Senegal respectively.

No Chelsea player has scored yet, and it would be the first tournament since 2002 that there was no Blue on the scoresheet if that run was to continue.

Strasbourg players have scored more World Cup 2026 goals than Chelsea

Strasbourg, who have been used as a feeder club for Chelsea since BlueCo took over there in 2023, also have a fair presence at the tournament, including 20-year-old attacker Gessime Yassine.

The Morocco star was on target late on in their final group stage win over Haiti, in turn meaning there have now been more Strasbourg goalscorers at this tournament than Chelsea.

Given the fact that the pathway on paper is from the Ligue 1 side to the Premier League, this should be seen as a concern for Xabi Alonso going into next season.

However, it should be noted that some of the big goal threats haven’t even been selected to represent their nations this summer.

Cole Palmer is not with Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, while Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian missed out on Brazil duty for selection and injury reasons respectively.
