Chelsea’s transfer window has started with the rapid sale of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, a move which shocked Spain teammate Dani Olmo.

After rumours of Cucurella wanting to leave following the poor 2025/26 season at Stamford Bridge, it didn’t take long before a switch to Madrid was confirmed for the left-back.

The Blues are pleased with the fee received, even if Xabi Alonso originally wanted to keep hold of the defender ahead of his first season at the club.

Dani Olmo shocked at Marc Cucurella’s move from Chelsea to Real Madrid

What surprised Chelsea fans the most was the speed that the deal was completed. Cucurella was already a Madrid player before Spain’s first World Cup game against Cape Verde.

His international teammate Dani Olmo has admitted this also surprised him, although is pleased that his friend has got the move he desired.

He told Diario Sport: “It all happened so quickly, didn’t it? We weren’t expecting it. If it’s what he wanted, then in the end I’m happy for him.

“At the end of the day, besides being a teammate in the national team, he’s my friend. Now we’re going to have to suffer against him in the league, and he’ll have to suffer against us as well. And now he’s going to be seeing Lamine a little more often.”

Even though Chelsea are content at the sale of Cucurella, there could be more transfer business with Real Madrid this summer that will insert doubt in the hearts of supporters going into next season.

Enzo Fernandez remains on Madrid’s radar

Jose Mourinho is ensuring that Madrid get their transfer business done early this summer, and this could continue with the signing of Enzo Fernandez.

It is expected Fernandez will leave Stamford Bridge before the end of the month, assuming a fee can be agreed between Chelsea and the Spanish giants.

The Blues are holding out for a fee of around £120m, although a compromise is likely as they look to get on with their own transfer business.

It has been known for some time how much admiration Fernandez has for the Spanish capital, and looks as if he is going to be the next big star at Chelsea who makes the move over there.
