Danny Murphy has admitted that one Chelsea player has really surprised him this season.
Chelsea beat Newcastle United 3-2 on Monday, thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Palmer also grabbed an assist on the night, and Danny Murphy has claimed on talkSPORT that the attacker can play against any team in the world after watching him this term.
Following his goal and assist against Newcastle, Palmer now has 19 goal contributions in the Premier League for the campaign.
Another talkSPORT pundit, Ally McCoist, thinks the 21-year-old is playing so much better than Manchester United star Marcus Rashford right now.
Danny Murphy surprised by Cole Palmer
Murphy says he did not realise how good Palmer was until this season and is confident that the Englishman can take on any opponent.
On Palmer, the former Liverpool midfielder said: “I think he has the temperament to play against any opposition, any big game. He’s just a wonderfully, intelligent footballer. I’ve had the privilege of seeing him live about four times, watched him closely.
“I didn’t realise how good he was. He can play anywhere. He doesn’t rely on amazing pace because of his manipulation with the ball and his body movement. He’s just a brilliant footballer.”

Cole Palmer can play against any defence
Palmer has shown this season that he can hurt any defence, whether it is by scoring or creating an opportunity for one of his team-mates to.
Albeit from the penalty spot, the England international has netted against some of the best teams in the country, including his former club Manchester City and Arsenal.
He also managed a goal from open play in a 2-1 loss to Manchester United and recorded an assist away at Tottenham Hotspur.
Palmer has mostly played on the right this season, where he comes in from. Those half-spaces are where the Chelsea man causes a lot of trouble with his passing and shooting.
It would be great to see what Palmer can do for the Blues on the European stage against an elite side, but with his team 11th in the table, it may be a while before he gets to play a Champions League game at Stamford Bridge.
