Darren Bent has singled out one impressive Chelsea player whose game has gone up a few levels.

The way that the Chelsea squad has been assembled in the last couple of years means that it’s stacked with so many youngsters, especially when you add in the academy graduates as well.

Speaking via Joy Sports last month, Michael Essien insisted everyone needs patience with the Blues project. It’s been a pretty quick start to the season from Enzo Maresca as the manager, though.

Darren Bent hails Levi Colwill

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent thinks Chelsea’s Levi Colwill has developed into a superb young defender.

“I look at their squad and I still think defensively they’ve got good players… I think Levi Colwill has turned into a very, very good centre-half,” Bent told talkSPORT.

At the age of 21, Colwill has now emerged as a key starter in Chelsea’s XI. On top of that, the young centre-back earned his third senior cap for England earlier this week.

We agree that the £100,000-a-week star (Spotrac) is developing and maturing in his overall game.

Levi Colwill is going to the top

Once Colwill cuts out the rare errors in his game, which will naturally come with more experience, we could be looking at an elite defender.

The left-footed centre-half is already one of the best young defenders in the world right now. His form suggests he’s on an upwards trajectory, too.

He’s shown great versatility in his Blues career so far to cover at left-back when needed, but we want him permanently fixed in the heart of Chelsea’s defence.

His composure on the ball and passing range is exceptional when building out from the back. Also, we’re spotting some leadership shining through the youngster, and the academy graduate ticks so many boxes when you look for a modern defender.
