Darren Bent chooses who’s better – Mauricio Pochettino or Unai Emery

Darren Bent is pretty certain in his response when asked whether Chelsea’s Mauricio Pochettino or Aston Villa’s Unai Emery is the better manager.

There’s a huge selection of talented coaches scattered across the Premier League right now. In fact, you could argue that the current crop of managers in the division is as strong as it’s ever been.

Mauricio Pochettino, 51, returned to England in the summer to take charge as Chelsea’s head coach. We’ve seen the Blues play some excellent football so far this season, albeit they’re still waiting for the results to come.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery has been working his magic since arriving at Villa Park in October 2022. His Villa side have a superb record of 26 wins in 43 games across all competitions.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent agrees that Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp are the two best managers in the Premier League.

Afterwards, he puts Villa’s boss as the third best in the division.

When asked if Emery’s better than Pochettino, Bent told talkSPORT (4:10pm, 31 October): “Yeah.”

We’ve got no issue with big praise for Emery’s, whose CV speak for itself. The 51-year-old’s won 11 pieces of silverware as a manager so far, including four Europa League trophies.

We’re more than happy with Pochettino at the helm of Chelsea right now, though.

Pochettino’s trophy haul in management is currently at three, with all of them coming at French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine boss has a very positive reputation in England from previous spells at Southampton and Tottenham, but we guess he’ll want to improve his trophy count while at Chelsea.

Speaking via Football London last month, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta recently predicted it won’t take long for Chelsea to really hit their stride under Pochettino.

If the Blues can win at home to Championship club Blackburn Rovers tonight, they’ll book their spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Chelsea already look a long way off in the Premier League, with the main concern being whether they can reach the European positions, so the cup looks like their best hope of a trophy this season.
