Darren Bent says 22-year-old Chelsea player was absolutely ‘awful’ against Tottenham

Mykhailo Mudryk made an “awful” cameo performance in Chelsea’s 4-1 win against Tottenham earlier this week.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent.

Mykhailo Mudryk, who’s just 22, is definitely improving with his performances this season and earning more trust from the fanbase.

The Ukraine international is under-fire after his second-half display in the Premier League victory away to Spurs, though.

Frustrating cameo

Mudryk entered the field against Spurs under pretty unusual circumstances. This is because the hosts were down to nine men on the pitch and continued to play with an extremely high line, which left a lot of space in behind the defence.

On paper, it looked like the perfect scenario for the likes of Mudryk and Raheem Sterling to enjoyed a field day. However, it took so many attempts before the Blues finally cracked the code, with Nicolas Jackson scoring a late hat-trick.

Speaking via talkSPORT, Darren Bent wasn’t impressed by what he saw from Mudryk on Monday night. You can understand some criticism when you consider he didn’t manage an attempt at goal/

Andy Goldstein said: “I didn’t rate Mudryk when he came on.”

Bent responded: “He was awful.”

We feel like Mudryk is right in the argument to force his way into Chelsea’s best XI on the wing. He’s going to need a bit of extra magic and end product to cement his spot, though.

It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of minutes he gets this Sunday versus Manchester City.

Speaking via talkSPORT this week, Jason Cundy agreed that Mudryk struggled to make any kind of difference in the Spurs win. But it can be difficult for some players trying to make their impacts off the bench.

Mudryk does bring an extra dynamism to Chelsea with his outrageous pace, which could be an interesting feature against a Man City defence that is depleted by injuries right now.
