Jason Cundy says 22-year-old Chelsea player really ‘struggled’ against Tottenham

Mykhailo Mudryk struggled to make a serious difference during Chelsea’s win over Tottenham on Monday night.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy.

Spurs suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season yesterday, losing 4-1 at home against their rivals Chelsea. On top of that, they lost their discipline by collecting two red cards inside the opening hour during a fiery London derby.

It was a fun return to his former club for Mauricio Pochettino, whose side continued their impressive away form.

Chelsea struggles

We did watch the Blues struggle to crack the code against Spurs when they went down to nine men early into the second-half.

A lot of has been made about how the hosts continued to play with their defence so high, which continued to catch Chelsea in the offside trap. Eventually, the visitors found the right formula to allow Jackson to cash in with three goals.

Jason Cundy believes that Mykhailo Mudryk, 22, was one of the Chelsea players that found it difficult on Monday.

The left-winger came off the bench and had over half an hour at nine men, but he was seriously lacking the end product.

“Mudryk I thought struggled even with the space tonight,” Cundy told talkSPORT (12:26am, 7 November).

Mykhailo Mudryk frustration

It looked like the tailor-made game for Mudryk to capitalise on some odd Spurs defending, but it didn’t quite pan out that way when he came off the bench.

While speaking on Sky Sports during commentary of Tottenham vs Chelsea, Gary Neville said he spotted Pochettino getting annoyed with Mudryk.

The Ukraine international was doing very little when 1v1 with any Spurs defender. He was caught offside once and couldn’t make the most of hi speed to get in behind the opposition backline, too.

There’s definitely been sign of real improvement in his game across the last month. He can’t afford to waste time when he’s on the pitch as the competition for places is becoming more and more difficult.
