Journalist David Ornstein has now given an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper in the upcoming January transfer window.

He told The Athletic that there are currently no plans for the club to strengthen again in the middle of the season after the position underwent much change over the summer.

The familiar duo of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy are no more at Stamford Bridge, with two new additions taking their places.

Robert Sanchez has been an ever-present this season for the Blues, with Mauricio Pochettino multiple times mentioning how impressed he has been by the Spaniard.

Supporters have not always held that opinion. There are still audible concerns across the Stamford Bridge when he is under pressure with the ball at his feet.

This perhaps stems from when he kicked the ball straight to Declan Rice, letting Arsenal back into a game that they had no right being in.

No plans for new Chelsea goalkeeper

The other option at the club is Djordje Petrovic, although he is yet to be seen since his move from the MLS.

Many had predicted he would get his chance in the EFL Cup against lower-league opposition at some stage. However, he is still waiting for his debut.

As far as any new goalkeepers go, Ornstein has claimed that the club are currently happy with the options they have in West London.

He said: “I continue to be told that Chelsea are happy with their two goalkeepers and don’t intend to recruit another for the time being.”

While Chelsea supporters may not be over the moon regarding their current options, they would do well to remember the fortunes so far of one player they were linked heavily to.

Andre Onana is having a rough start to life at Old Trafford, and it doesn’t bare thinking about the reaction he would have had if he had done similar at Stamford Bridge.
