Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that current goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is going to be a great player for the club.

He told the Mail Online that the £25m signing just needs time before he becomes a truly fantastic addition for the club.

It is fair to say that Sanchez has not settled the nerves of all fans at Stamford Bridge since his arrival at the club over the summer.

It was unclear whether he was originally brought in to immediately become the number one, however he has now played in every single game so far this season.

However, when Kepa Arrizabalaga left the club to take the vacant role at Real Madrid for the season, Pochettino had not much choice but to make the former Brighton man his number one.

Despite a tough start to life in West London, Pochettino has backed him to come good with plenty of time under his belt.

He said: “I’m really happy with his attitude and commitment. He is going to be great.

“He only arrived at the last moment, the other keeper went to Madrid, he played in two or three training sessions and then straight in.

“We need to give him time to adapt, it is not the same playing for another team as it is at Chelsea where there is pressure to win.”

It remains to be seen if tonight will see the Spaniard dropped for the first time this season, with the EFL Cup providing a good opportunity for rotation.

Djordje Petrovic is yet to feature for his new side since the move from the MLS, although there is a lot of promise over his abilities and potential when he does get going.
