There is a growing feeling that Liam Rosenior’s announcement as Chelsea manager is a matter of when, not if.
We’re just two days removed from the bombshell news that Enzo Maresca left Chelsea after 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Since then, one name has been all over the rumour mill — the current Strasbourg head coach Rosenior.
Gary Lineker has given Rosenior his backing, and it’s looking like he will comfortably win this race if no dramatic twists unfold. As for when it might be confirmed, David Ornstein has more.
Liam Rosenior set to be announced as Enzo Maresca replacement ⌛
David Ornstein puts timeline on Liam Rosenior arrival
Chelsea travel to the Etihad on Sunday to take on the side currently second in the standings.
As it stands, Under-21s coach Callum McFarlane looks set to be in the dugout as the Blues work on a replacement.
Ornstein went on The Athletic FC Podcast to discuss the status of negotiations, claiming: “That points to Liam Rosenior, who they have a very high opinion of. There was a feeling long before we came to this, that Rosenior will be a Chelsea head coach one day. It appears that it’s going to come sooner rather than later.
“He hasn’t been the only candidate in this process, but it has been a small number, a handful. He’s within that. It will be very interesting to see how BlueCo and Strasbourg look to backfill him and replace him if and when he departs.

“That is the current expectation. The timings look like they won’t work out for the Manchester City match on Sunday. That looks like it will be an interim coaching setup. Very soon, we would expect it to be Rosenior.”
The Blues will have to take on Man City without a recognised manager, but we should expect the Englishman’s arrival in the days following. Strasbourg have to line up a Rosenior replacement first.
A chance of more tensions between Chelsea and Strasbourg
While the term ‘sister club’ suggests a close relationship, there have been strains put on the one between Strasbourg and Chelsea.
Strasbourg fans have protested against BlueCo for their tendency to snap up the best talent at the French side for the benefit of the Premier League giants.
Which Chelsea loanee at Strasbourg has the most potential? ⭐️
Well, now Chelsea are poaching their manager as well.
You can certainly understand the frustration. It threatens to make an already-tenuous relationship even more strained. But this is the nature of the model being used.
