Trevoh Chalobah has celebrated on Instagram the signing of a new Chelsea contract, which has seen a wave of responses from current and ex-teammates.
Chalobah, 22, signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge on Thursday to commit his future to his boyhood club.
The Blues confirmed that their defender has penned a fresh four-and-a-half-year deal after making a huge impact so far in the 2021/22 season.
Chalobah, who’s been out on loan during the previous three campaigns, finally made his first-team breakthrough with Chelsea during the summer. He’s an all-action defender to come through the academy and his game has matured massively out on loan.
The English centre-back managed to impress Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel during pre-season, so ended up being promoted to the main group this year.
Surprisingly, he’s already made 10 appearances and scored two goals. The quick centre-half is providing genuine competition in the back-three for some top-class experienced defenders like Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Chalobah has received plenty of messages on social media after his contract news, including from the likes of Mason Mount and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Also, West Ham’s Declan Rice, who played in the Chelsea academy, gave his four-word reaction to the contract news:
Chelsea put trust in Chalobah
For Chalobah, he can be confident knowing that Chelsea have huge faith in him.
His long-term contract is a reward for his eye-catching start to the season and it looks like he may be a part of the squad for the long-term future.
With several older defenders in the Blues group, he provides an exciting young energy at the back. There is no doubt he will be picking their brains for advice all the time.
He’s yet another diamond that Chelsea have managed to pluck from their academy. The success of the loan system deserves a special mention, too.
Tuchel a huge factor
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel deserves immense credit for his role in Chalobah’s rise.
He recently said the youngster is performing at a “very high” level.
Many doubted whether Tuchel would put an emphasis on youth following his January appointment, but he’s shown he will give anyone a chance in games if he thinks they are good enough.
