BBC pundit Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Brighton’s Leandro Trossard after his performance against Chelsea at the weekend.
The Belgian carried on his sensational form this season as he opened the scoring against the Blues on their way to a 4-1 win at the Amex.
He has seven goals in 12 appearances this season, and Graham Potter was the benefactor of a few of those early in the season.
Crooks claimed the 27-year-old was in inspired form for the Seagulls, although this may see them struggle to be able to keep hold of him if big clubs come knocking.
Potter wants Trossard
He said: “There seems to be some suggestion that Graham Potter owes Brighton fans an apology for leaving Amex Stadium for Stamford Bridge so abruptly. An apology – what for? Brighton fans should think themselves very lucky to have had Potter for as long as they did. It was well known in football circles that he had turned down a number of offers before he succumbed to the lure of Chelsea.
“The problem the Seagulls have now is can they hang on to Leandro Trossard, who destroyed Chelsea, and made it very uncomfortable for Potter on his return to his old club. It is not unusual for good players to end up at bigger clubs – or managers for that matter.”
Chelsea have been one of the teams reportedly interested in a deal, with Potter leading the efforts to get the deal done.
After signing for Brighton for £15m in 2019, this is comfortably his most impressive season so far in the top flight.
The Blues could certainly prosper from the attacking output Trossard has provided this season. Their current squad is again searching for someone to take the attack by storm.
