Ray Parlour questioned Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s emotions after his disappointing display for Chelsea against Arsenal.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, Parlour argued that something was awry with Aubameyang during his reunion with the Gunners.

The Gabon international had a damning afternoon by all accounts at Stamford Bridge.

He only touched the ball eight times before being replaced just after the hour mark.

His teammates failed to supply any real service to the striker, but he himself rarely initiated involvement in the fixture.

After all the pre-match build up concerning the 33-year-old and facing his former colleagues, the end result was rather underwhelming.

Not for Arsenal of course, who rejoiced in a 1-0 victory they thoroughly deserved.

They dominated Chelsea, dousing any offensive threat the hosts attempted to muster.

Aubameyang off the pace

Aaron Ramsdale only had one shot to save throughout the 90 minutes, an indication of the Gunners’ supremacy.

“It’s a problem. One shot on target, being at home, is just not good enough whoever you are playing,” said Parlour on Graham Potter’s sides poor performance.

“You need to move up the pitch a little bit higher. They didn’t really test out (William) Saliba and Gabriel today.”

“Aubameyang just didn’t look at it today. Whether it’s just the emotions of playing against his old club I don’t know, but it wasn’t the Aubameyang I saw when he played for Arsenal,” continued the former midfielder.

“When he was going through that purple patch, scoring goals, making runs.

“He didn’t look like he enjoyed it today. That’s a worry for Graham Potter.”

Aubameyang’s solemn expression when removed by the manager was totally justifiable.

Not only did he fail to overcome Mikel Arteta, the man who removed him as Arsenal captain, his struggles in front of goal continued.

He hasn’t netted since the 2-0 win over AC Milan on the 11th of October seven matches ago.

The £10m signing from Barcelona must redeem himself quickly, or else the curse of the Chelsea number nine will catch up with him.
