Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has shared he was not happy with what one Chelsea player did last night in their EFL Cup tie.

He told their club website that he was not impressed with a tackle made by midfielder Moises Caicedo on Anthony Gordon which eventually forced the attacker off the pitch.

Caicedo overall enjoyed a really strong performance last night in the quarter-final win over Newcastle, which saw them book their place in the final four.

It looked for a long time as if they were heading out, until Mykhailo Mudryk pounced on an error to convert and send the game to penalties.

Here, the Blues were perfect from the spot, allowing Djordje Petrovic to make himself the hero with a stunning save.

Caicedo was not afraid to put himself about, and this saw him put a tough challenge in on Gordon early on that left the former Chelsea transfer target riding in pain.

Howe disappointed with Caicedo

It eventually forced the young attacker off, with Howe saying he wasn’t happy to have seen his player hobble off as a result.

He said: “I haven’t seen it myself, I have only seen the effects on Anthony who couldn’t continue after the knock, and it’s sad to see a creative player lost from the game due to the bad tackle. I’d need to see it again to nail my own colours to the mast, but I think it was disappointing to see a tackle take out a player of that quality.”

Chelsea will be more concerned at the moment with their other starting midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, after he was forced off in the first half with what appeared to be illness.

His emotional reaction after the game though suggested it could be something more serious and see him miss a period of time over this Christmas period.
