Swiss pundit Marco Streller has claimed that he can’t work out why Denis Zakaria chose to join Chelsea this summer.

The 25-year-old chose to take the plunge to Stamford Bridge on deadline day during this window, with the Blues not convinced on their midfield options for the campaign ahead.

However, the move has so far see him play no minutes for the club.

It has previously been claimed that Thomas Tuchel had no input in the signing, and the loan element suggested it was unlikely to be a season-defining deal.

This appears to be the case under Graham Potter. Despite trying out a number of options in the midfield, Zakaria hasn’t been one of them so far.

This has angered Streller, who is worried that his time at Stamford Bridge has hindered their country’s chances at this winter’s World Cup.

He said: “We expect players to be personalities. I can’t go to Juve half a year before signing a contract. In a situation where they are not in form – and then he changes clubs again on the last transfer day. This career planning simply doesn’t fit.

“He – in top form – and with a good career plan would play there at some point. But in a completely different role. You can’t always blame the agent or the club. There, the player himself is also responsible. That’s (the move to Chelsea) not serious! Other teams were also involved, so a lot of things were done wrong.”

After another 90 minutes on the bench against AC Milan, it is looking more unlikely that Zakaria will be able to break into starting side.

With N’golo Kante close to a return, it is only likely to be another obstacle in the way of the Switzerland international from making an impact at Stamford Bridge.
