Gary Lineker claims he’s been seriously impressed by what he’s seen from AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek since he left Chelsea last summer.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who’s now 28, is a product of the Blues academy.

The versatile midfielder played 155 first-team games for Chelsea, but he was sold in a £15million deal (The Guardian) to Italian giants AC Milan last summer.

There’s no doubt that the Englishman’s been a big hit at the San Siro so far. He’s netted five goals in 23 Milan performances, plus been a mainstay in their starting XI.

Gary Lineker has delivered a glowing review on Loftus-Cheek’s success since leaving Chelsea.

“I tell you who is enjoying his game at the moment, Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Two goals again for Milan. He’s doing really well over there,” Lineker said on The Rest Is Fooball podcast.

“One of my sons was at Chelsea’s academy for a few years and he played with Ruben Loftus-Cheek. When I used to watch them play lots of games I used to think, ‘This kid will make it. And if he doesn’t I really don’t know a thing about the game.’ He’s having a really good career. He’s doing well over there.”

Lineker later added: “… Mostly when he played here he was more of a 6 or an 8. Now in the last few games he’s playing more as a 10 for Milan. He’s increasing his knowledge of the game.”

Ruben Loftus-Cheek impressing

We don’t think Chelsea supporters have ever doubted the individual talent of Loftus-Cheek. In fact, the Blues academy graduate was a massive fan favourite during his time in West London.

But we didn’t get to see the form and consistency of the powerhouse midfielder for long enough spells, so this move to Milan has been the perfect switch to start fresh in his career. He’s now entering his prime years and look physically great in the Serie A division.

Speaking via Milan’s official website last month, Loftus-Cheek claims his game has already improved so much during his brief stint in Italy.

We’d guess a recall to Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad can’t be miles away with the way he’s consistently performing this season.
