It has been another transfer window where Chelsea have been extremely active, with Filip Jorgensen being their latest signing.
Filip Jorgensen is Chelsea‘s seventh arrival of the summer, joining the club after the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo.
And with the transfer window still open, there is still plenty of time for the Blues to bring in more new players.
Despite Chelsea making seven signings this summer, former defender Scott Minto still thinks they are weak in a couple of areas.
Minto still thinks Chelsea can finish in the top four, though, depending on how they finish the transfer window.
Scott Minto’s Chelsea concerns
Minto thinks Chelsea’s current first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson is a “very, very good player”. However, he still believes that the Blues need a world-class centre-forward.
Despite bringing in Jorgensen, the former Chelsea defender also feels that Enzo Maresca‘s team could be stronger in the goalkeeper position.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Minto said: “Where is a football match won? A football match is controlled in midfield, but where is it won? It is won in both boxes. So, you need a world-class goalkeeper and a world-class striker. The problem is that Chelsea don’t have either. Okay, you know, the goalkeeper has come in and has been very good with his feet and [Enzo] Maresca again does want that way of playing.
“I think it would be very harsh to say he’s not good with his hands. He must be good to be signed by Chelsea, but he’s not a world-class goalkeeper, clearly. Nicolas Jackson, I felt I was on my own at times last season defending him, but I don’t think he has got that natural instinct to score 25 goals a season, although to be fair, Didier Drogba very rarely scored 20 goals a season.
“He is a very good player. He is a very, very good player. He’s strong, he’s quick, he can run the lines, he can drop off, he can have two centre-backs hanging off him and yet he has still got the strength to do it. The only thing he is lacking, and it is quite important, is sticking the ball in the back of the net, that composure. That can come.”
Chelsea could sign a world-class striker in Victor Osimhen
There is still time for Chelsea to sign a world-class forward this summer, and some will feel that Osimhen falls into that category.
Last season was not his most prolific, with the 25-year-old scoring 17 goals in all competitions. But Napoli, as a team, failed to deliver after finishing 10th in Serie A.
However, the campaign before when they won the title, Osimhen managed to score 31 times, which is the kind of figure that belongs to a world-class No.9.
Osimhen isn’t entirely sold on joining Chelsea this summer, but the Blues still need to try to sign him before the transfer market shuts.
Bringing that kind of firepower to Stamford Bridge could be enough to get Chelsea back into the Champions League, which will be the club’s ultimate objective this season. Anything less, and the club’s owners will deem the campaign as a failure.
