‘Don’t know what he’s thinking’: Micah Richards stunned by £60m Chelsea player yesterday who just didn’t move

Micah Richards was baffled by Marc Cucurella’s poor effort to prevent Arsenal’s goal yesterday.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 last night, Richards recoiled at the Chelsea defender’s dour attempt to keep out the Gunners on Sunday.

Cucurella can certainly not shy away from his damp endeavour in keeping his net clean over the weekend.

He, along with pretty much everyone one Graham Potter’s squad, had a pretty rotten afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

The full-back seemingly got too overwhelmed by the occasion and did not look settled throughout the event.

His constant battle with Bukayo Saka clearly wore him down, to the extent all rational thinking went out of the window.

There didn’t seem to be much thought going through Cucurella’s head when Arsenal took the lead in the second-half.

Instead of attacking the cross that eventually fell to Gabriel, the £60m Spaniard decided to grab hold of Granit Xhaka.

“He literally says my man is not going to score, but he has taken that literally,” recalled Richards.

“The ball is an inch from him! All he has to do is move to his left and he can clear it!

“I don’t know what he’s thinking at all.”

Cucurella got it all wrong

Although many players probably want to wrestle Xhaka, there is certainly a time and a place.

Cucurella picked the wrong time and the wrong place.

His poor judgement, along with more questionable defending, allowed Mikel Arteta’s men the easiest of openings.

From that moment onwards, the tie was settled.

At 0-0, Chelsea could still cause an upset.

After going a goal down, they never once looked like troubling Aaron Ramsdale.

It was a dark day to be a Blues fan, misery compounded by the awful weather in London.
