Chelsea’s most promising young player Shumaira Mheuka has been linked with a permanent switch to League One side Reading this summer, and the Blues are open to the sale.

Mheuka was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award after his star season up front for the Chelsea Under 21s.

The youngster managed 25 goals in all competitions, eventually earning him some minutes for the first team squad towards the end of the campaign.

Chelsea open to permanent Shumaira Mheuka sale

It was believed Chelsea planned to loan out Mheuka this summer in order to get him exposure to regular first team football, although those plans may change upon the arrival of a genuine permanent offer.

Journalist Martin C’Nwoch has stated that Reading have made an offer to sign the striker this summer, with Chelsea open to the sale providing they get an appropriate fee.

He said: “Reading FC make approach for Chelsea forward Shumaira Mheuka. Talks ongoing between clubs for permanent deal.

“Chelsea open to selling but only for correct price. Player open to move for regular game time.”

Chelsea may live to regret a Mheuka sale

The Blues know full well what it’s like to see one of their most promising youngsters leave the club and thrive elsewhere. Rio Ngumoha is now a full England international after taking the plunge to leave Stamford Bridge.

Mheuka is emerging as the latest talent at the club who needs to be kept at all costs, and the Blues should not be looking to cash in this summer.

An EFL loan deal makes the most sense, with him easily good enough to earn serious game time in the lower leagues.

The 18-year-old will already be looking over his shoulder though at some of the signings the club are making. There are big things planned for youngster Dastan Satpaev, who is set to join this summer.
