Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed to GiveMeSport that Trevoh Chalobah could leave the club at the end of the season.

The defender was originally a huge part of Graham Potter’s squad, as he remained fit whilst a lot of his fellow defenders fell to injuries before the World Cup.

However, he has struggled for minutes in recent weeks, with the January transfer window only making things more difficult for him.

Benoit Badiashile was brought in early in the month, and he has already shown that he has plenty of ability despite being just 21.

With him unable to feature in the Champions League, Chalobah may have been hoping that the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Borussia Dortmund would present him an opportunity.

However, Graham Potter elected to start Marc Cucurella after a number of games with him completely out the side.

Chalobah tipped to leave

The Spaniard, who is hoping his recent form will see him awarded an international call-up, featured alongside regular options Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly.

This trio then continued into the 3-1 win over Leicester City at the weekend.

Phillips has claimed that the traffic in front of him as well as the potential for the Blues to further add to the position could force him out this summer.

He said: “When you look at the situation and you look at what’s ahead of Chalobah – we’re looking at another centre-back – he will want first-team football, no doubt about it. So, I think he’ll end up being sold in the summer.”

Chelsea have been linked with the signing of Joško Gvardiol at the end of the season, after he impressed greatly alongside Mateo Kovacic for Croatia at the World Cup.

However, they may be encouraged to think twice after seeing his performance for RB Leipzig against Manchester City earlier this week.
