Enzo Fernandez breaks silence and reacts on Instagram after joining Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez has broken his social media silence by posting a thank you to Benfica on Instagram.

The midfielder joined the club yesterday in the final moments of what proved to be a memorable deadline day that matched the window it preceded.

The Blues were locked in tough negotiations throughout the majority of January regarding a potential move to England after what proved to be a brilliant World Cup campaign.

He picked up the award for young player of the tournament as his impact helped Argentina to World Cup glory.

He was extremely keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, however was struggling to convince club president Rui Costa that a move should happen this month.

However, in the final minutes a transfer was agreed between the two Champions League clubs on terms that were favourable to the Blues, but still saw them paying a British transfer record fee.

The player has now taken to Instagram to thank his former club, as he leaves just months into his spell in Portugal.

He said: “Thank you very much Benfiquistas. We wanted to thank my family for all the affection received in these 5 months, I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“Where you enjoy every moment to the fullest and say the best of me ever. That the press does not stain what we built together because it was something wonderful that I had never imagined.

“Thanks to all the employees who work too hard to make the institution much bigger than it is. Thanks to my colleagues for always treating me in the best way and making me feel like I was at home.

“Grateful to the management of the club and especially to Roger Schmidt, to all his work staff for their trust and daily respect, I was very happy. Thank you Benfica, I will always carry you in my heart.”

Chelsea fans will now be waiting patiently for the official announcement, with them hoping he will feature against Fulham on Friday.
