John Obi Mikel believes Enzo Fernandez is a changed man since Liam Rosenior’s departure, after scoring the goal to help Chelsea overcome Leeds and reach the FA Cup final.
Under former manager Liam Rosenior, Enzo Fernandez often looked shackled by a rigid system that forced him to stay deep and orchestrate play from the halfway line in the latter stages. While he was technically proficient, he lacked the freedom to influence the final third.
At his peak, he was given the license to roam forward and crash the box, a change that really benefited him and saw the ball hit the back of the net 13 times.
As Chelsea prepares for the FA Cup final, Enzo heads to Wembley as the main man.
Out of the managers we have been linked with, which one do you think might be able to get the very best out of Cole Palmer again?👀
John Obi Mikel claims Enzo Fernandez has already changed his ways at Chelsea
Speaking on the Obi One podcast, John Obi Mikle has claimed that Enzo Fernandez has already started to crash the box more after Liam Rosenior’s sacking.
“Leeds came to press us, and they knew that’s the only way they could get us. Press them, and they will make mistakes. Sanchez is going to make mistakes, but he didn’t do that. He didn’t take any risks yesterday. He went long, he kept it simple, and yeah, and we benefited from that, and we caused them problems in the first half, and we went 1-0 up.
“Credit to Enzo, Enzo Fernandez does what he does, which is what I said. He’s become the master at that, arriving late at the box and scoring goals. That’s something we didn’t see at all under Liam Rosenior.”
Where will Chelsea finish this season? Will they get a European spot?🤔
Enzo Fernandez is finishing the season strongly
Enzo Fernandez has brought back that attacking desire that treated him well earlier on this season. Under Chelsea’s current tactical setup, he has been given the freedom to push higher up the pitch, frequently arriving in the box as one of the last men.
However, this tactical success comes amid growing uncertainty regarding his future in London. His newfound goal-scoring prowess has only intensified interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid,
His contract is long-term, but the constant links away suggest that Fernandez might be playing his final games for the club, even as he reaches his absolute peak on the pitch.
