There are so far no assurances that Enzo Fernandez will ever play for Chelsea during Xabi Alonso’s time in charge, although the incoming manager will have taken a lot from his recent performance in a new position for Argentina.
Fernandez has made it clear that he has a desire to move to Spain, and is holding out for a move to Real Madrid this summer.
He ideally wanted his future to be sorted before the World Cup got underway, however on the eve of the tournament he is no closer to a move away.

Enzo Fernandez stars in new position for Argentina
In fact, Chelsea are insistent that Madrid will have to pay what will be a club-record sale for the Blues if they are to part ways with him.
His focus for now will be on the World Cup, which Argentina will be in high spirits for following their dominant win over Iceland.

The world champions won 3-0, with future Chelsea star Valentin Barco on target after starting the game, while Fernandez came on off the bench.
When playing, the Blues man featured in a deep-lying playmaker role, rather than the advanced midfield position he has played in so often at Stamford Bridge.
He completed 39 of his 42 passes in 45 minutes, including 100% of his long passes as he looked to get Argentina ticking in the second half.
Who are YOU most excited to see at the World Cup?
On the ball, he was very strong too. He completed 2/3 dribbles and carried the ball a combined 170m.
When looking to complete the defensive duties that are required of his role, Fernandez excelled too. He won 3/5 of his ground duels, and was only dribbled past once despite his position sometimes leaving him exposed to the counter attack.
Assuming there is a chance he remains at Chelsea, there could be an appetite for Alonso to utilise Fernandez in a deeper role alongside Moises Caicedo, opening up a place in the side for a different number 10.
This could well be Cole Palmer, who is being tipped to flourish under Alonso after being allowed his first summer break since 2022.
