Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has provided an injury update on Romeo Lavia in Friday’s pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Bournemouth.
Chelsea return to action in the Premier League on Saturday night, where they play away at Bournemouth.
Romeo Lavia, 20, made an impressive start to the new season after a nightmare debut campaign last year that was plagued by injuries. Blues supporters raved about Lavia’s performance on the opening day of the season against Manchester City.
Unfortunately, a hamstring problem recently kept the Belgian midfielder out of a few games before the September international break.
Now, Enzo Maresca has provided an update on the youngster’s fitness going into the weekend’s clash with Bournemouth.

Enzo Maresca update on Romeo Lavia
Maresca has shared this afternoon that Lavia will be unavailable for the away match at Bournemouth.
The more positive news is that he’s expected back in time for next weekend’s league trip to London rivals West Ham, though.
When asked how far Lavia is from returning, Maresca said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “Romeo looks like [he’s] very close. Hopefully for the next game.”
Romeo Lavia return is super encouraging
The imminent return of Lavia is very exciting for everyone associated with Chelsea, although in the back of your mind you can’t help worrying about his poor injury record.
When fit, Lavia is an extremely talented defensive midfielder, someone that perfectly suits Maresca’s style of football. We’re pretty confident he’s good enough to nail down a starting position as a No.6 if he gets an extended run of matches.
Speaking recently via talkSPORT, Jason Cundy insisted Lavia is going to become a “top player”. He just needs a bit of luck to go his way by avoiding injuries.
When you look at the talent in Chelsea’s midfield, the club should be very pleased with their recruitment in that specific position.
