Enzo Maresca has certainly made a positive start to his time at Stamford Bridge, and now he’s just done something that no Chelsea manager has done since Thomas Tuchel three years ago.
It surprised many people when Enzo Maresca, 44, was appointed the new Blues head coach. The Italian boss guided Leicester City to promotion from the Championship last season as title winners, but the Chelsea role is by far the biggest position in his coaching career to date.
So far, Maresca should be pretty content with a decent start to the 2024/25 season.
The Blues have seven wins, two draws and two defeats from their opening 11 matches across all competitions. In terms of their Premier League form, they’re currently fourth in the division table with 14 points from seven games.
If there’s one area that they can really improve, Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to stop the obsession with playing out from defence.

Enzo Maresca follows in the footsteps of Thomas Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel was the last Chelsea manager to win the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award, winning the individual accolade back in October 2021. Well, that’s until today.
The Premier League’s X account has confirmed on Friday that Chelsea boss Maresca is the Premier League Manager of the Month for September.
Maresca’s side picked up 10 points from four league games last month to help climb the table.
- Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace (1 September)
- Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea (14 September)
- West Ham 0-3 Chelsea (21 September)
- Chelsea 4-2 Brighton (28 September)
Chelsea finding some stability
It’s been an extremely chaotic few years for everyone associated with Chelsea, especially since the current owners took charge in May 2022. Finally, it feels like things may be settling down under Maresca’s guidance.
Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino have both come and gone as permanent Blues managers in recent seasons, with nobody completely winning over the fanbase since Tuchel.
It’s still the opening few months of Maresca’s reign at Chelsea, but he couldn’t have got off to a much better start. We’re sure to learn a lot more about the current state of his side when they travel to Anfield straight after the international break to play Liverpool in the league.
