Enzo Maresca is joining a long line of managers from Italy who have taken over responsibilities in the past at Chelsea.

The former Leicester City boss will be hoping that he can replicate the success of many of those from his country who have come before him.

Champions Leagues, Premier Leagues and FA Cups have all been won by previous Italian coaches in West London, leaving an illustrious lineage behind them.

After the decision was made to remove Mauricio Pochettino from his post despite a sixth placed finish last season, it is perhaps clear to see what the target of the club is going forwards.

Replicating anywhere near the success of Carlo Ancelotti would be an impressive feat, with his career enjoying a brief but successful tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca says he has learned from Carlo Ancelotti

Maresca has now claimed in his first interview on the club website that he has been inspired by the current Real Madrid boss after playing under him in the past.

He said: “Absolutely. As you say, [ played under (Carlo) Ancelotti, (Marcello) Lippi, (Manuel) Pellegrini, all of them are very important managers. We all try to take things and then we create our own box with all these things inside.

“It’s what I’ve tried to do since I started thinking about being a manager.”

Maresca to stick to what he knows

The new boss has already spoken about what kind of tactics he is looking to play next season, hinting that his style has already become clear after spending a season at Leicester.

If this is the case, there is no doubt a positive feeling around the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall which was confirmed last week.

Having a player available who already has a deep understanding of what the manager wants to do could be essential to the club getting off to a strong start next season, and this will be huge when taking into account the magnitude of their opening day fixture against Manchester City.
