Enzo Maresca has named the Chelsea player who’s doing extra sessions after training to help improve his game.

When you look at the current Chelsea squad, it’s mainly full of young players. Therefore, we’d expect the group to improve over time and for there to be serious hard work going on behind the scenes.

Enzo Maresca has made a steady start to the new season with seven points from four Premier League games, but the result in Saturday’s fixture away to West Ham feels like it’ll help shape the opinion of many.

Michael Essien is confident Chelsea will eventually come good, but he’s adamant that everyone needs to be patient.

Mykhailo Mudryk in extra training

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has shared that Mykhailo Mudryk is one of the club’s stars doing extra work after training at Cobham.

The 23-year-old Blues winger certainly has his fair share of critics after a mixed spell in English football so far, but it’s fantastic to hear about his work ethic during the week.

“Training sessions are the only way to improve players. We try to improve all of them every day with some of them doing an extra session at the end. Misha (Mudryk) is one of them. At the moment, he is not playing, but that does not mean he will not play in the future,” Maresca said via Football.London.

Disappointing stats

To date, Mudryk’s numbers in a Chelsea shirt are not good enough. We think he’d say the same, too.

It cost the Blues a mammoth £89m deal (BBC) to sign the Ukrainian attacker from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, but he’s struggled to find any kind of consistency in west London.

Here is a look at Mudryk’s output so far in his Chelsea career:

It’s worth pointing out that not everything revolves around numbers. However, there’s no doubting that in the modern game it’s how all forwards are judged.

Mudryk has been an unused substitute in two of Chelsea’s four Premier League matches this season because the competition has cranked up, so let’s hope that it brings the best out of him and he does hit a purple patch.

On paper, Mudryk has so many great physical attributes. The £100,000-a-week left-winger (Spotrac) needs to piece everything together in his mind and start delivering on the pitch, though.
