Enzo Maresca has delivered an update on Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia ahead of the upcoming match against Brighton.
Chelsea are back in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they host Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
For Blues head coach Enzo Maresca, he’ll be hoping his side records a third consecutive win in the league. They also thrashed Barrow 5-0 at home in midweek in the Carabao Cup, too.
Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia, 20, has had to watch on from the sidelines with a hamstring injury since his impressive performance in the defeat to Manchester City on the opening day of this season.
Lavia has been on a different training plan recently as he looks to get himself fit again. Now, there’s been a significant update going into this weekend’s fixture.

Enzo Maresca update on Romeo Lavia
Chelsea’s Maresca has confirmed the major boost that Lavia is available tomorrow for the home game against Brighton.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference for the Brighton match, Maresca said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “Romeo is available for tomorrow… We have one more session now and then we decide. The important thing is that finally he’s back.”
We’d guess that Lavia will be on the bench because now isn’t the time to disrupt the Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo partnership that is flourishing in central midfield, but it’s definitely a huge lift to the squad.
Chelsea star needs slice of luck
Lavia’s first year as a Chelsea player last season was decimated by injury, playing only two times. Therefore, it’s so frustrating for the Belgium international that this campaign has started in a similar fashion.
We’re desperate for the deep-lying defensive midfielder to get a decent run now because he’s got so much to offer this team.
Even in the very limited time we’ve watched Lavia, it’s obvious that the youngster has exceptionally high potential and is a perfect fit for Maresca’s side.
