Chelsea today announced their latest addition in what is proving to be an extremely busy summer transfer window.
The Blues confirmed that Joao Felix had joined the club on a permanent basis, following up on his loan spell at Stamford Bridge in 2023.
Chelsea fans were originally not convinced by Felix’s addition, with many thinking there are other areas on the pitch they should be focusing on strengthening first.

However, a player with the quality the Portugal international has doesn’t become available every day, and is clearly an opportunity the Blues felt was too good to pass up on.
Enzo Maresca was asked in his pre-match press conference today about him, and the boss mentioned that his versatility was a big reason why he was a fan of the player.
Enzo Maresca loves Joao Felix’s versatility
He told Football London: “First of all because he’s a good player. He’s a talent. The club already knows him from two years ago. The good thing about Joao is he can play different positions, inside, as a nine, outside; this is the reason why.”
Maresca already had a real headache when it came to selecting attackers, and he has already been forced to make some tough decisions.
He decided to drop Raheem Sterling from the matchday squad completely for the Premier League opener against Manchester City, leading to the player’s camp putting out a statement in response.
Felix could play as Chelsea striker
Gary Neville has predicted that Felix will feature in somewhat of a striker role, leaving the future unclear for Nicolas Jackson at this stage.
The Senegal international would have been confident that his first season in English football was succesful enough for him to continue as the number one striker, however reports have refused to go away that they could still add a natural finisher to their ranks this summer.
The lead candidate for this is Victor Osimhen, however there are still plenty of complications to break down before he would make the move to Stamford Bridge.
