Shaka Hislop admits that he’s been shocked by how well one Chelsea player has started this season under Enzo Maresca.

It’s been a really encouraging start for Enzo Maresca as Chelsea manager, winning seven of his opening 10 matches across all competitions. As a result, the Blues went into this weekend sitting fourth in the Premier League table.

There’s several individuals in the squad that are excelling in the system under the head coach.

Interestingly, speaking recently via Sky Sports, Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to stop the obsession with playing out from defence.

Shaka Hislop impressed by Nicolas Jackson

ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop has singled out Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson for big praise because of how well he’s played this season. So far, the young striker has been one of their most impressive performers in the Premier League.

Hislop has heaped praise on Maresca for the impact he’s had on the Blues players, including Jackson.

He told ESPN: “He’s getting a tune out of Nicolas Jackson, which I did not see coming. Everything he has done just seems to have worked.”

Chelsea strikers firing

First of all, Jackson is excelling this year and making a huge impact as the main spearhead of the attack.

The £32m centre-forward (The Guardian) is delivering great output, scoring four goals and creating three assists in the Premier League. On top of that, the 23-year-old’s overall game and link up play has been a delight to watch.

Christopher Nkunku, 26, is the other striker in Chelsea’s squad also doing well. He’s netted seven goals in 10 games across all competitions, with six of those strikes in various cup competitions.

There’s been so many seasons in recent times where the Blues have struggled to find one component frontman, but now it looks like they’ve got two in the same group.

While Nkunku is the more natural finisher, Jackson brings so much on and off the ball to give him the edge right now.
