ESPN pundit Julien Laurens is not impressed with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s handling of former Chelsea player Mason Mount.

Mason Mount was a key signing for Erik ten Hag over the summer, joining Manchester United from Chelsea in a £60m deal, as reported by BBC Sport.

However, the attacking midfielder has started United’s last few matches on the bench, and Laurens has now questioned Ten Hag’s thinking behind that on ESPN FC.

It has been a difficult start to life at Old Trafford for Mount, who is yet to score a goal for his new club.

Mason Mount deserves a chance

With United really struggling, Laurens now thinks Mount should be given another shot in the team.

Discussing the 24-year-old and Ten Hag on ESPN FC, the journalist said: “Why did you buy Mason Mount, then? Why did you make like five different offers? You insisted to sign him and now you don’t use him.”

Laurens also went on to say: “I just think Mason Mount deserves a chance now because clearly a lot of things are not working right now.”

Would Mauricio Pochettino have used Mason Mount?

Probably. If Mount did not leave Chelsea, perhaps the Blues would not have signed Cole Palmer, who is proving to be a great replacement for the United man.

The fact that Mount can play in midfield as well means he easily could have been starting instead of Conor Gallagher right now.

Gallagher has impressed this season, but in terms of attacking play, Mount brings a bit more to the table. His most productive campaign at Stamford Bridge saw him score 11 goals and provide 10 assists in 32 Premier League games.

For whatever reason, though, Chelsea were not able to keep the England international and had to sell him.

Palmer’s impact in west London has obviously soften the blow and it now looks like Mount is the one who needs Chelsea and not the other way around. However, his United career has just started, so it would be foolish to completely write off a player of his quality.
